Trying Spermidine – Thoughts on Dosing, Food Sources and Energy Boost

Not gonna lie, after reading a few posts about spermidine and its autophagy boost, I’m keen to try it out. I’ve got a 5 mg capsule that came with my supplement kit, and the label says 1‑10 mg per day. I’m planning to start with 3 mg once a day with my coffee, then see how my energy and sleep feel. I know it’s a naturally occurring polyamine found in wheat germ, aged cheese and natto, so I’ll also add a spoon of wheat germ to my oats and have a piece of aged cheddar in the evening to top up the dose from food.
I’ve been noticing a bit of sluggishness after my night shifts, so if spermidine can help the clean‑up of damaged proteins and support cardiovascular health, that would be spot on. Anyone else have experience with GI upset or any side effects? I’m also curious if it matters to take it fasted or with food. Cheers for any tips!

- kayla_s: Honestly I’ve never taken spermidine myself, but a few friends who tried it said the 3‑mg dose was fine and they didn’t notice much stomach upset when taken with a meal. The polyamine nature of spermidine can be a bit harsh on an empty gut, so a spoonful of wheat germ in your oatmeal or a slice of aged cheese at dinner usually does the trick. I’ve heard that taking it fasted might give a sharper energy lift, but it can also spike nausea in some people. Do you notice any digestive quirks with you
- greg208: Not gonna lie I’ve been getting that post‑shift reflux after the night shift and a bit of loose bowels around 10pm, so stomach upset has been a real concern for me. Thanks for the tip – I’ll stick to the 3 mg with my morning coffee but add a spoon of wheat germ to my oats and a slice of aged cheddar at dinner to makeμένου a bit gentler. Do you think a later dose (say 2pm) would help smooth it out?
- kayla_s: I actually started with 5 mg a few months back, taking it with my morning coffee, and the first week I got a mild stomach ache that cleared up once I added some oats. The food source idea is solid; wheat germ is a good pick because it’s also high in fiber, so you get the spermidine plus a bit of digestive help. I’ve never seen any serious side effects beyond that, just the usual caffeine buzz a little longer commentaire. If you’re feeling sluggish after night shifts, give it a week and see if th
- greg208: Not gonna lie I’m glad you’ve had a milder hit. I’m starting at 3 mg with my coffee and adding a spoon of wheat germ to my oats as you suggest. I’ll watch the stomach a bit after the first week and see if it eases. Do you notice any shift in your sleep quality once that initial ache clears? Also, how much wheat germ do you normally use?
