Rapamycin: a life‑extension lottery?

The new scientist article looks at a 2025 meta‑analysis that pulled together 167 studies in fish, mice, rats, and rhesus monkeys, and claims that rapamycin can add years to life, but only if it hits the right dose and timing. The authors call it a lottery because results vary wildly across species and even within the same species.

I’m a fan of rapamycin because of its early‑access off‑label use for longevity and my own low‑dose cycling protocol, but i’ve always felt the hype is a bit over the top. The animal data is promising, yet we have only a handful of human trials with no long‑term data, and side effects like immunosuppression and metabolic changes are real. I’m wary of framing it as a guaranteed longevity ticket. I think the article could add more context about the gaps in human data and the importance of careful dose‑finding.

What do you think: is the lottery metaphor realistic, or are we just looking for a miracle that never quite shows?
