Injection‑site pain from Cartalax after first use – any tricks?

I just finished my first 1‑2 capsule/day course of Cartalax for knee pain after a 50‑mile run. I started with a 0.25 ml intramuscular shot in the thigh and felt a sharp sting that lingered for a day. The next injection a week later was a bit better, but still had a dull ache that made it hard to lift the leg for the first couple of hours. I tried a 5‑minute warm compress before the shot and a light subcutaneous injection instead of intramuscular, but the pain was still there. I also shaved the area to avoid infection, but that didn't change the reaction.
I know the literature says injection‑site reactions are a known side effect and long‑term data are lacking, but I’d like to hear if anyone’s had the same or if you’ve found a reliable routine that reduces the discomfort. Do you use lidocaine cream beforehand, do you inject at a different angle, or do you just wait it out? Any safety tips from a pharmacist or runner perspective?
