Bergamot extract, heartburn and CYP3A4 interaction concern?

Posted by runner_aaron in Safety & Side Effects - 1 points, 0 comments.

I started 700 mg of bergamot extract with meals after reading about its LDL‑lowering effects. After a couple of weeks I noticed a sharp heartburn around 6 pm, especially after a curry dinner. It’s not the usual reflux I get from spicy food; itğıal happens within 30 min of the supplement. I’ve read that bergamot contains flavonoids that inhibit CYP3A4, which could affect other meds, so I’m wondering if this is the cause.

I’m also on a low‑dose statin for hypercholesterolaemia. Anyone else combining these two? Have you seen any liver‑panel changes or bile‑acid related issues when using bergamot with statins?

If the heartburn is real, would lowering the dose to 500 mg help, or should I move away from this extract entirely? I’d also appreciate any tips on timing it with meals or food that might blunt the GI upset. Thank you.
