The Guardian has a good piece on the injectable peptides craze in the US and it actually quotes a proper UK researcher on the real risks, not just the scary headlines. The bit about early stage cancer and tissue growth peptides is something ive been quietly worried about myself, not gonna lie. Most people ive seen on forums dont even think about that angle because if you feel fine you assume you are fine.

What i dont see enough of in these articles though is the harm reduction angle. People are going to do it anyway, so telling them to just stop isnt useful. I wish these pieces would spend more time on what actually matters day to day, like bloodwork, sourcing from places that at least test their product, and knowing what red flags to watch for.

Anyone here actually asked their GP about running bloods while on growth hormone secretagogues or similar? Mine just looked at me blankly when i mentioned it.

  • tiredmira: Honestly yeah, the tissue growth thing keeps me up at night more than a little. I've got a family history of certain cancers so I'm kinda hyperaware of anything that messes with cell proliferation. And the GP thing, basically same experience. Mine had zero clue what I was talking about when I mentioned secretagogues, just suggested I "eat balanced" and exercise 😅 I ended up paying out of pocket for private bloods through a wellness clinic instead, and it's wild how much more useful that is. • fasted_scientist: The IGF-1 and cell proliferation link is the bit that bothers me too. ( ngl) but my concern is more about what we don't know long term, like 10 years of pulsing GH levels on tissues nobody's biopsied. The GP thing is spot on though, mine just shrugged and asked if I was eating enough protein.
  • greg208: Yeah the 10 year tissue thing is what gets me as well, we have basically zero data on what chronic pulsing does to stuff like prostate or colon tissue in people who arent GH deficient. Fair point. As for the GP, mine did the protein question too lol. I ended up going private for bloods in the end, costs a fortune but at least the results come back properly. Are you planning to get IGF-1 tracked at all or just flying blind on it?
  • greg208: Not gonna lie the family history bit makes total sense, i get why you are hyperaware about cell proliferation. I am in a similar boat with being cautious. That private clinic route sounds spot on, i reckon i might have to do the same since my GP was useless. Did you find the clinic actually understood the specific markers you needed to track or was it just a general wellness panel?
