Ergothioneine, anyone actually supplementing it or am I late to the party?

Not gonna lie I hadnt even heard of this one until a mate mentioned it last week. Been doing some reading and it sounds almost too good to be true, a dedicated transporter in the body (OCTN1), piles up in mitochondria, very long half life so you dont have to keep dosing it through the day. The profile over at /peptides/ergothioneine lays it out pretty well, 5 to 25 mg once daily seems to be the range people talk about.

What im trying to figure out is whether it slots in alongside the usual longevity stack or if its a replacement for something. Like if youre already on NMN, metformin, the odd rapa pulse, is ergothioneine doing the same job or covering a different gap. Antioxidants have always felt a bit hand wavy to me, but the OCTN1 transporter angle made me stop and pay attention, the body clearly wants this stuff somewhere.

Has anyone here been running it for a few months and noticed anything tangible, or is it still too early and the data is mostly mouse stuff. Keen to hear from people actually using it rather than just the marketing.

  • databrandon: Yeah so I started running it about 4 months ago, for what it is worth. I take 10mg in the morning with breakfast, no reason for that timing other than its easy to remember. My actual notes dont show a ton, HRV is basically flat, sleep scores the same, no big change on bloodwork either. The one thing I will say is my skin seems a touch clearer but that could just be placebo since I was paying more attention. I dont think it replaces anything in a longevity stack, seems more like a separate anti
  • greg208: Yeah the timing thing makes sense, breakfast is the easiest cue isnt it. Useful to know your HRV and sleep didnt really budge, that matches my gut feeling on it being more of a slow background thing than something youll feel week to week. How much did yours cost you per month if you dont mind me asking. Trying to figure out if its worth slotting in alongside the NMN or if thats overkill for the same general goal. Cheers for the actual write up by the way, real world notes are gold.
  • weekendnate: Honestly sounds about identical to what I got, HRV and sleep basically a flat line after 3 months at 15mg. The skin thing is the only signal I noticed too, and yeah probably half placebo because I was staring at my face more. Curious if you ran any inflammatory markers though, CRP or anything like that. Mine moved a tiny bit but not enough to call it real.
  • greg208: Cheers mate, good to know im not just imagining the skin thing then. Havent done CRP myself, my GP would probably look at me like ive lost the plot if I asked for it just out of curiosity. Might pay for a private test next time im ordering bloods though, gives me a number to actually track. Did you stack it with anything or just plain ergo on its own?
