First time looking at AICAR, what even is an "exercise mimetic"?

Okay so I've been seeing AICAR pop up in a few threads lately and I'm finally curious enough to ask, what exactly is it and why do people call it an exercise mimetic? I get that it apparently flips on AMPK which is some kind of energy sensor in cells, but that part is kinda above my pay grade right now 😅

I'm not looking to inject anything wild on day one, I just wanna understand what folks have noticed when they've messed with it. Like does it actually make training feel easier or is it more of a background metabolism thing, and do people pair it with anything or run it solo?

Also is the half life really that short? Cuz if it clears fast I'd wanna know how that changes the timing. Drop your beginner friendly takes please, I'm reading everything I can but half the posts assume I already know the basics.

That's the "exercise mimetic" angle since training does the same thing. For me AICAR was very subtle. No euphoria, no clear pump, just seemed like I recovered a bit faster between sessions. Could easily be placebo though, hard to say. The half life is genuinely short, like under an hour, so most people dose it pre workout and that's it. Solo seems most co
  • tiredmira: Yeah the AMPK thing clicked for me once I thought of it like a low battery mode kicking in. Your body basically thinks it just trained without training. The cardarine stack is interesting, I keep reading about it but the longevity stuff with cardarine still makes me nervous. Did you notice anything on recovery or was it more the endurance side?
  • coastal_chemist: Honestly the low battery analogy helps me too, thanks for that. I'm mostly curious about the endurance side honestly, and yeah the half life thing bugs me, like if it's that short does it even stick around long enough to do anything meaningful for a regular gym session? Were you running it on workout days only or every day?
  • coastal_chemist: Okay the fuel gauge analogy actually clicked for me, way better than how I was reading it before. And yeah "subtle" is kinda what I was bracing for honestly, was half expecting a magic pill feeling and your reply is the first one telling me to expect basically nothing obvious. Pre-workout timing makes sense given what you said about the half life, so I'd just be dosing it before I train and skipping it on rest days? And when you say you recovered a bit faster, are we talking like the next day s
