Taurine + spermidine stack, anyone running this for autophagy?

Curious if anyone here is combining taurine and spermidine as a daily longevity base. I've been taking taurine for a while, around 2 g split morning and afternoon, mostly for the mitochondrial and exercise recovery angle. Sleep feels a touch deeper on it, though that could just be placebo.

Picked up spermidine about a month ago after reading more on autophagy and how it declines with age. I do 5 mg in the morning on an empty stomach. Nothing dramatic to report yet, but my skin honestly looks a little smoother at week three? Could be the season changing, idk.

My thinking was taurine supports the mitochondria side while spermidine pushes the clean-up side, so they cover different angles of the same problem. Both seem well tolerated in the research I've seen.

Has anyone stacked the two long term? Any timing tips, or things to watch out for? Also wondering if adding low-dose rapamycin eventually would clash with either of these. I'm in this for the slow game, not chasing anything flashy.

  • former_cooks: Interesting combo, i tried spermidine on its own for a bit and tbh i didn't really notice much either way, could have been me being inconsistent with timing. Taurine i take most days, usually 1-2g, mainly because it's cheap and seems to take the edge off tough training sessions. One thing i'd ask is whether you're splitting the spermidine or just the one morning dose? Some people i've chatted to say it makes them a bit sleepy if taken later, so mornings only might already be the right call. On
  • tired_mom: Honestly the autophagy marketing around spermidine always felt a bit much to me, like where is the actual human data showing it does something measurable beyond mouse studies? Taurine has more going for it in my opinion, especially for anyone training hard. And yeah one dose in the morning seems right, splitting it through the day doesn't really have a strong rationale that I have seen. πŸ’‰
  • leah_j: Yeah fair, the autophagy framing does lean heavy on mouse stuff. I figured the risk was low enough at 5 mg to just try it and see what I noticed, but you're right that I'm basically guessing on the human side. Taurine is the one I actually feel confident about. Recovery between sessions is noticeably better, and like I said sleep seems a little deeper, not huge but consistent. Did you ever try spermidine yourself, or skip it entirely?
  • leah_j: Yeah I've been doing the single morning dose, around an hour before food, just because mornings are when I'm most consistent. The sleepy thing tracks with what I've read about it being tied to histamine in some people, so I'll keep it AM only for now. The "covers separate pathways" thing was more my own hypothesis than anything solid, honestly. Mitochondria vs clean-up felt intuitive but I couldn't tell you if there's actual mechanistic overlap. Curious what made you stop the spermidine solo, w
