Plateau at week 8 on tirz, adding L-carnitine to see if it moves the needle

Stuck at the same weight for like 10 days now and I'm getting antsy πŸ˜…

I'm on tirz, currently at 10mg, been titrating slow. Calories are around 1400-1500 most days, protein sitting around 110g. Sleep is fine, training is consistent.

Basically, I want to try adding injectable L-carnitine 2-3x a week before fasted cardio and see if it actually helps with the stubborn plateau or if I'm just throwing stuff at the wall.

I've heard mixed things about carnitine actually doing much for fat loss in people who aren't deficient. But I do eat pretty low red meat since I switched to mostly chicken and fish a couple years ago. So who knows, maybe my baseline is just low.

Has anyone here actually tracked this properly? Like with real body comp data, not just the scale. I'm gonna run DEXA scans before and after a 4-6 week block to see if anything shifts beyond what tirz is already doing.

If nothing changes I'll probably just bump to 12.5mg and move on. But curious if anyone saw any meaningful difference adding it on top of a GLP-1.

  • mom_katie: Honestly with your calories already that low and protein solid, the plateau might just be water shift messing with the scale. I've tried injectable carnitine a few times in the past, on its own and stacked with other stuff. For me it did nothing visible on DEXA over a 6 week block. Same weight, same lean mass, same fat mass. Just felt a bit more "peppy" during fasted cardio, could just be placebo though. Given you're already pretty low on red meat, you'd think baseline carnitine matters, but i
  • tiredmira: Yeah that tracks with what I was worried about honestly. If your DEXA didn't move over 6 weeks then it probably really is just tirz doing the work and I'm chasing noise. The "peppy on fasted cardio" thing is interesting though, I might still run it just for that and see if it helps me actually hit my cardio sessions harder. Could indirectly move the needle if I'm burning more consistently. Going ahead with my pre and post DEXA anyway since I already booked it, at least I'll have a real compari
  • tiredmira: Yeah honestly that tracks with what I've seen too, the scale was basically lying to me the last time this happened and it broke about 4 days later after a normal week πŸ˜… gonna hold off on the carnitine for now and just give it another week, if nothing moves then maybe reassess the deficit instead of stacking more stuff.
