CNBC is reporting that Hims is going to stop offering the compounded GLP-1 pill after the FDA signaled a crackdown, and Novo Nordisk stock popped about 8% on the news. It's a decent read because it connects the dots between telehealth regulation and the big pharma players in a way that actually matters for anyone using these meds.
My take is the oral GLP-1 space was always going to get squeezed. Compounded semaglutide pills were a gray area from day one, and the moment the FDA decided to pay attention, the telehealth shops that leaned on them were exposed. I get why people liked the convenience, but bioavailability on the oral form is rough compared to the injectable, so the clinical case was shaky too.
Question for the room, are we going to see more telehealth companies quietly retreat, or double down on the branded supply deals?

- rational_reads: Bioavailability is the key thing here and most people skip past it. The oral sema form needs to be taken on an empty stomach with very specific water rules, even then youre getting a fraction of what the shot delivers. So the clinical case was always weaker than the marketing made it sound. Curious what you mean by telehealth shops being "exposed" though. Hims leaned on compounding pharmacies which are legal in certain contexts, thats not quite the same as the FDA coming after them directly. Is
