Anyone stacking oral HA with low molecular weight topicals?

Ive been chewing on this for a while and keen to hear what others reckon. Im mid forties, starting to see the dehydration thing on my face even though my skincare is fine, and ive been looking into hyaluronic acid from a few angles. From what I understand the low molecular weight versions seem to penetrate deeper than the older high weight stuff, so ive been using a serum morning and night plus taking the oral form through the week. For me the skin feels plumper, especially round the eyes, but im a bit sceptical it isnt partly placebo tbh.

Couple of questions for anyone whos tried both. Did splitting oral doses across the day seem to matter, or is once in the morning fine? And has anyone noticed better results when stacking with something like ALA, or is that overthinking it? Im aware the evidence for oral HA is a bit thin imo and most of the studies are on topical or injectable forms, so im treating this as an experiment not a given. Also open to hearing if anyone found the oral form did absolutely nothing for them.

  • sanjay_swims: Ngl i've only tried the topical side so i can't really speak to the oral form or splitting doses. But for what it's worth my missus swears by stacking her low mw serum with a vitamin c derivative in the morning, says it makes a noticeable diff compared to the serum on its own. Could just be the c helping with collagen though so not sure if it counts. On the molecular weight thing, yeah the smaller chains do seem to get further into the stratum corneum based on what i've read. Still a lot of it
  • theo149: Sound spot on about the weight thing, the smaller chains definitely behave differently than the older high mw versions. I tried both routes last winter, just my own experience so take it with a pinch of salt, but the topical did more for the dehydration round my eyes than the oral did. Funny you mention the vitamin c pairing, my other half reckons the same about her routine.
  • sofia_h: Cheers for that, useful to hear. Yeah the topical wins for me too, im just wondering if the oral is doing anything on top or if its money down the drain tbh. Also dont think i mentioned vitamin c in my post, are you maybe mixing me up with someone else? Just want to make sure were on the same thread.
  • sofia_h: Cheers for that, the vit c angle is interesting, ive actually got a tetrahexyldecyl ascorbate serum sitting in my drawer that i keep forgetting to use in the morning, might be worth rotating it in and seeing if i notice anything different. And yeah the "sits on surface and draws water from air" bit is exactly why i started looking at oral in the first place, figured working from the inside might do something the topicals cant. Did your missus find the c serum stingy at all round the eye area? Mi
