ScienceDaily piece covering a Denmark population study on the new GLP-1 drugs. Basically they tracked real-world users and found a huge chunk dropped off within the first year, even though the weight loss results on paper look great πŸ₯—

This matches what I've been seeing on my own logs. Appetite suppression feels strong at first, then it kinda flattens, and life gets in the way. The clinical trials have that structured support built in, but in the real world people are juggling cost, side effects, and just being tired of poking themselves.

I do wonder how much of the dropout is side effects versus people hitting a goal and stopping cold. The second group is the scary one, because the rebound data is pretty brutal.

Has anyone here actually made it past a year without a gap?

I think you're spot on that the dropouts split into two groups. Side effect people at least know why they stopped. The goal-hit-and-quit crowd is where it gets rough, because from what I've read the weight comes back fast and then some. Muscle too, not just fat, which is the part nobody wants to talk about. One thing I don't see mentioned much is how the tr
  • tiredmira: Yeah the dietitian thing is such a gap, trial patients basically get a coach for free and then we just get a prescription and good luck πŸ˜… The muscle loss part is what worries me more than the fat regain honestly, like the weight coming back is one thing but losing lean mass on top of that is brutal. Did you track yours at all? Mine dropped a bit even with hitting protein pretty hard so I'm curious what other people are seeing.
  • tiredmira: Yeah the trial support thing is basically the whole secret lol. Weekly check-ins with a dietitian would change everything for me, instead of just guessing macros on my own πŸ˜…
