Five Indian drugmakers just launched generic semaglutide at up to 80% off the Novo pricing. That's a massive gap, and it puts real pressure on the brand names even outside India over time.
My take is mixed. Cheaper access is genuinely good if you're someone who responds well and tolerates it, and the patent dynamics here are worth watching closely. But I keep coming back to the same thing I always say about compounding and generics: who's actually verifying the pens? Same peptide on a label does not mean same peptide in the syringe, and pharmacokinetics on these molecules are not something you want to be approximate about.
If cheap generics spread globally, do you think more people will just stay on low maintenance doses long term instead of cycling off, or does the price drop mostly just pull in new users who would have sat on the fence? Curious how others read this one.
