Taurine at 2g a day, my skin looks different and I'm kinda annoyed about it

I've been taking taurine for about 6 weeks now, started it mostly for the longevity angle since I read it drops as you age and the healthspan stuff looked solid. Was not expecting my skin to be the thing I noticed first lol.

My usual routine is the same, no new topicals, same diet, but my skin looks way more bouncy, like the fine lines around my eyes are softer and my skin just looks more hydrated overall. I even asked my partner if I was imagining it and he noticed too so it's not just me. I'm also stacking a basic HA serum in the morning which probably helps, but I had been doing that for months before taurine and didn't see this kind of shift.

For context I'm 34, train hard 5-6x a week, and my skin tends to get dull when I'm under recovered so this was a pleasant surprise. No side effects either, I split it into two doses, morning and early afternoon since the half life is short.

Anyone else get skin changes from taurine or am I just imagining a connection that isn't really there?

  • weekendnate: Honestly that's not a crazy leap. Taurine plays a role in collagen crosslinking and osmoregulation in skin cells, so there's at least a plausible mechanism, not just vibes. 2g split is also a reasonable dose, most studies sit in the 1 to 3g range. Six weeks is enough time to actually notice something if it's real, and your partner noticing unprompted is more useful than any mirror check. Could still be the HA serum finally doing something, or just your training recovery improving and showing up
  • patient_codes: Yeah the sleep angle is interesting, I actually have been sleeping deeper the last few weeks too and didn't connect the dots until you said it. I wake up less in the middle of the night and my resting heart rate has been a bit lower too, could be the taurine, could be the recovery from training finally catching up. I'll keep the HA serum in the routine since I can't fully separate the two, but the sleep thing makes me want to stick with taurine for the longevity reasons regardless. 🧠
  • quiet_ironman: Yeah makes sense I’ve noticed similar bounce after a month on 2g split, though I can’t tell if it’s the taurine or just better sleep from my new magnesium. Have you tracked any sleep changes?
