TUDCA loose stools at 500mg daily, anyone else? Splitting dose helped me

Ran TUDCA at 500mg once a morning for about 3 weeks as a liver support add-on while i was on an oral compound. Liver enzymes actually looked better on bloodwork, but the GI side was rough. By day 4 i was getting loose watery stools, kinda urgent in the morning, and some mild cramping. Not painful, just inconvenient and enough to mess with my morning.

I dropped to 250mg twice a day (with breakfast and dinner) and the GI stuff calmed down within 3 days. Liver numbers still trended the same direction on my last panel. So splitting the dose seemed to be the trick for me, at least on an empty-ish stomach in the AM the 500 hit harder.

Couple questions for anyone running it long term. Do you cycle TUDCA or stay on continuously. And has anyone here stacked it with NAC and noticed any difference vs TUDCA alone. Mine is just my own experience, def talk to a doc if symptoms are more than mild GI stuff.

  • patient_codes: Hey, I had the same thing when I first tried 500mg TUDCA in the morning – loose stools and a bit of urgency that made my routine messy. Splitting it to 250mg twice a day with meals smoothed things out after a few days, and my liver labs kept moving the same way. I’ve been taking it continuously for a couple months now without cycling, just watching how I feel. Curious if anyone’s stacked it with NAC and noticed extra liver support or if it’s mostly redundant. Just my own experience, definitely
  • amber464: Yeah the split dose thing worked for me too, glad it lined up with what you saw. I haven't tried NAC alongside it yet tbh, mostly because I wasn't sure if it was overkill or actually additive. Did you notice anything obvious from the combo or was it just "labs look ok so I kept going"?
  • practical_dad: Yeah splitting was the move for me too, 500mg all at once was just too much bile acid hit at once for my gut. I havent tried stacking with NAC honestly, i figured they'd be kinda redundant since both are supposed to hit the glutathione angle but maybe they work thru different pathways idk. Did you notice anything different when you added it in?
  • amber464: Yeah same here honestly, the single morning dose was way worse than splitting. And about the glutathione angle, i think TUDCA works more on bile flow and NAC is more of a precursor so they might complement each other but i havent run them together to compare. Only thing i noticed adding TUDCA was the liver enzymes moving in the right direction and the GI stuff once i split it. You ever try dosing it with food vs empty?
