Reconstituting my first vial, do I really need bacteriostatic water?

Hi all, just started looking into a few peptides for general recovery and sleep, and trying to learn the basics before I touch anything. I've watched a few reconstitution videos and something is bugging me. A lot of them say you have to use bacteriostatic water and not sterile water because of bacterial growth once the vial is opened. I get the logic, but how real is the risk in practice for a single person doing a small vial over a couple of weeks? I'm in Sweden so BAC water isn't always easy to get, and I've seen some people mention 0.9% saline as a middle option. Is bacteriostatic water actually required, or is it more of a "better safe than sorry" thing? Also, does the fridge after reconstitution matter if I use the doses within a week? Trying to keep things simple and safe without overcomplicating it on my first try.

Genuine question, what are you actually trying to reconstitute? That matters a bit for how fussy you need to be with the solvent. For a single user pinching a vial over 2 to 3 weeks, sterile water is usually fine in my opinion. The bacterial growth worry is more about repeated needle sticks into a multi-dose vial that sits around for weeks, not a small vial you finish fast. BAC water just buys you a buffer with the benzyl alcohol keeping things cleaner for longer. Saline works too, same idea, slightly less sting for some people. Fridge after mixing, yes, just do it. Cheap insurance. If you can get BAC water easily enough, use it, but I wouldn't stress if you can't.

Fair point about the solvent question, I was being a bit vague. It's a BPC-157 vial, 5mg, planning to run it for maybe 3 to 4 weeks for a nagging Achilles tendon thing. Nothing crazy. So with that single user short use case in mind, sterile water sounds reasonable. The BAC water angle I kept seeing online felt like overkill for a vial I'll finish quickly anyway. The saline option is interesting, I hadn't heard the sting comparison before, I'll keep that in mind. One thing I want to double check, does the benzyl alcohol in BAC water actually do anything meaningful at fridge temps, or is it mainly a room temp thing?

Runneraaron basically already covered what I would say lol. I reconstituted my first GHK-Cu with plain sterile water because BAC was a pain to source here too, used it up within 10 days and kept it in the fridge the whole time, nothing weird happened. The benzyl alcohol buffer is a nice to have, not a must, especially if you are not poking the vial 20 times 😅

Haha yeah runneraaron did cover most of it, but it's nice to hear someone actually did the sterile water route without issues. 10 days in the fridge is roughly my plan too, maybe a bit longer since I'm only dosing a few times a week. One thing I'm still unsure about though, did you ever worry about the benzyl alcohol itself? I read a couple of forum posts warning against it for repeated subcutaneous use even at the usual 0.9%, but I'm guessing that's more about allergy than toxicity at normal doses.
