"Reconstituting BPC-157 for the first time, do I really need bacteriostatic water or is sterile water fine"

"Alright, bit of a beginner question and I want to get this right before I go near a vial. I've got BPC-157 in 5mg lyophilised powder and I keep seeing people say you have to reconstitute it with bacteriostatic water (bac) and that sterile water is a bad idea for multi-dose vials.

I get the basic maths side of it now (worked out I'd add 2ml of bac to get 2.5mg per ml, then a 250mcg dose is 0.1ml on the pin). What I'm not clear on is the why. Is bac water actually needed because of the benzyl alcohol stopping bugs growing once you puncture the vial multiple times, or is sterile water ok if you keep it refrigerated and use it quick?

Also when people say "use within X days after reconstitution" what are they actually basing that on, is there a proper study on stability or is it just vibes? Cheers for any pointers, don't want to mess up my first recon."

  • nerdy_lifter: Honestly bac water is cheap insurance, the benzyl alcohol is literally there to keep stuff from growing once you start poking the vial. Sterile water has nothing in it to stop contamination, so every pin you pull is a little gamble with whatever got in. On the shelf life thing, you're not gonna find a tidy RCT on reconstituted BPC sitting in someone's fridge. The X days thing is mostly community wisdom plus basic peptide chemistry, BPC is a stable peptide but once water's in there's no way arou
  • fasted_scientist: Yeah that lines up with what I'd read, just couldn't tell how much of it was proper evidence vs people parroting each other. I think I'll grab bac then since I'm only doing 250mcg a day and a 5mg vial will last me ages otherwise. What do you reckon is the realistic window though, like if I keep it properly refrigerated (cold, dark, clean swabs every time) am I actually fine past 30 days or is that pushing it? Not trying to be a cheapskate, just curious where the actual cut off sits in your expe
  • runner_aaron: Howzit, yeah this tracks for me tbh. I used sterile water once early on because I was in a rush and the vial lasted about 3 weeks before it looked a bit off, threw it out. Swapped to bac and never looked back, the month window just makes it easier to plan a cycle. One thing I do want to ask though, do you bother wiping the rubber stopper with an alcohol swab before every draw? I see people skip it.
