Peptides: performance booster or just snake oil? The conversation piece

Saw this piece from the conversation go around and thought it was worth bringing here. It basically walks through how most of the buzz around peptides is way ahead of the actual evidence, and it calls out the BPC-157 knee pain study specifically because there was no control group, which i have seen people throw around as proof it works for years.
Anecdotally i have tried a few things for recovery and some of them seemed to help, but i never know how much is real and how much is me wanting it to work. This article kind of confirmed my suspicion that the field is running way ahead of the science, and that the studies people cite are often weaker than they sound.
What bugs me is how many protocols get built on top of these shaky results. Has anyone here actually looked into the quality of the evidence behind the compounds they use, or do most of you just go by what feels right and what other people report?
