RU-58841 scalp irritation after a few weeks, anyone else get this?

Started running RU-58841 about a month back, daily topical application at the 50mg/mL range. First couple weeks the scalp looked totally fine, no issues at all. Then around week three I started noticing some flaking and itchiness, especially right at the hairline and crown where I was probably applying a bit heavier.

It is not severe, no rash or anything, but the area gets dry and a bit red if I skip a day of washing and reapply on top of it. I tried thinning the vehicle out with more PG and that helped a little. Bloodwork has been clean, no systemic stuff that I can tell, which is the main reason I picked RU over oral options in the first place.

For anyone running it long term, how are you managing the dryness without nuking the absorption? And has anyone noticed it getting better or worse over time, like does the scalp kinda adapt or does it just keep being a hassle?

  • retired_vo2max: Honestly the hairline and crown are the worst spots for this because skin is thinner there and you prob are overapplying trying to hit the receding areas... I ran it for a few months last year and had the same thing kick in around week 3. What helped me was rotating days with just a plain jojoba or squalane dab after washing, to give the scalp a breather without washing off the dose. Also stopped applying right before bed so it could dry fully. The dryness plateaued for me around week 6 and got
  • grinder265: Yeah the hairline thing makes sense, i was probably pushing it harder there trying to chase coverage. The jojoba rotate idea is solid, i might try that on off days. Did u keep the same 50mg concentration or did u cut it down at all? Also curious if the plateau at week 6 meant u could go back to daily or if u just stayed on the rotated schedule. Ngl the drying before bed tip is obvious in hindsight, i was probably smearing it on then passing out.
  • theo149: Yeah the hairline was always the worst for me too, drove me mad for a while. Rotating with a plain oil dab on off days sounds class actually, I just went harsher on the PG mix and ended up drying the whole scalp out. Did you keep the dose the same on rotation days or just ease off entirely?
  • grinder265: Honestly I just kept the dose the same, the oil was more like a barrier thing on off days so RU wasn't going on totally stripped skin. I think easing off entirely defeats the purpose tbh since half the point is daily coverage.
