Anyone else messing around with ergothioneine?

Y'all, I've been quietly digging into ergothioneine for a few months now, mostly because I'm a sucker for anything with a real mechanism behind it, and the OCTN1 transporter thing genuinely fascinated me. The idea that the body has a dedicated pump just to pull this compound into mitochondria... That's not marketing copy, that's actual biology, and it made me curious enough to try it.
I've been taking around 10mg a day, just once in the morning with breakfast, sourced from a mushroom extract. No stacks, nothing fancy. Honestly? Hard to say what it's doing. My recovery from yoga sessions feels maybe a touch smoother, but that could easily be placebo or just me being more consistent with sleep. The only thing I can say with any confidence is that I haven't noticed any side effects at all, which lines up with what I've read about it being well tolerated. I also like that it's not something my body seems to burn through quickly, given the tissue retention.
Has anyone else here been on it longer than I have, maybe a few months in? Curious whether the subtle stuff stacks up over time or if it stays this hard to pin down...

- nora659: The OCTN1 thing is what got me too, like our bodies have a whole dedicated system just shuttling it around, that doesn't happen for nothing. I played with it for maybe two months at a similar dose and honestly yeah it felt the same as what you're describing, super subtle, nothing I could really pin down. My Whoop scores didn't move in any obvious way and my sleep looked the same on paper. I will say I kinda noticed my skin seemed less dull around week five or six but that could totally be season
- patient_protocol: That tracks with what I saw too, super subtle, nothing dramatic. Your point about paying more attention to your face and noticing things is probably more honest than most supplement reviews I'd read, and honestly the same thing crossed my mind about my own recovery feeling smoother, like am I really noticing it or do I just want to notice it. The Whoop not budging is useful info though, gives me a little more confidence it's not doing nothing but also not doing a whole lot at this dose.
- jake777: Yeah the skin thing is interesting, I kinda had the opposite where I didn't really notice much externally but my recovery from runs felt a bit smoother, though I'm with you that it's basically unprovable at this dose and without bloodwork. Curious if you ever thought about bumping it up or if you just stuck with the 10mg range the whole time.
- patient_protocol: Honestly I thought about it a couple times but kept going back to 10mg since I couldn't really justify pushing higher without any clear signal it was doing anything at all... Figured why chase a number if 10 isn't giving me a clear win to build on. Maybe that's the cautious side of me. Have you thought about doing bloodwork to check inflammation markers, or is that overkill for something this mild?
