Tirzepatide and muscle preservation, what the GIP angle actually changes

Ran across a good writeup on ResearchSafe about compounded tirzepatide and the muscle preservation claim from hitting GIP alongside GLP-1. The mechanism part is what caught my eye, since plain GLP-1 agonists tend to strip lean mass when the weight comes off fast, and that is a real concern for anyone lifting heavy or just aging past 50 like me.

The peptide profile cites 20-25% weight loss, which lines up with what I have seen friends report on Mounjaro, but the dual incretin angle is newer to me. If GIP really does protect muscle and improve fat oxidation on top of appetite control, then maybe the body comp looks different at the end compared to semaglutide alone. That would matter a lot imo, because losing 60 pounds of fat means nothing if you also lose 15 of muscle.

Curious if anyone here has tracked lean mass on tirzepatide through DEXA, not just the scale weight. Did the GIP piece actually show up in your numbers, or does it sound better than it performs in practice? Also wondering how people are splitting protein intake to hold onto what they can while the drug does its thing, right?
