When do you actually need acetic acid water vs bacteriostatic water for reconstitution?

Been reading up on reconstitution and I keep seeing people mention acetic acid water for certain peptides that do not dissolve properly in bac water. Got me thinking because I have only ever used bac water myself and never had an issue getting powder into solution (admittedly I have only run a handful of different compounds so far).

The profile page on here says acetic acid water is for hydrophobic peptides that resist dissolving in neutral water. Fair enough. But how do you actually know in advance whether your specific peptide needs it? Is it just trial and error, mix with bac water first and see if it clumps? Or is there a rule of thumb based on the peptide structure or molecular weight or something?

Ngl I am a bit wary of injecting anything acidic subcutaneously. The stinging risk if you get the concentration wrong sounds unpleasant. If you have used acetic acid water before, what was the peptide and did you dilute it down with bac water after dissolving? Trying to figure out if this is something I need to keep on hand or if bac water covers most beginner-level compounds fine.

  • protocol_lauren: For most beginner compounds bac water is fine, I think you are overthinking this a bit. Things like BPC-157, TB-500, semaglutide, the common stuff people run first, they all dissolve in bac water no problem. I only ever used bac water myself and never had a peptide that wouldnt go into solution.   • tracker_jade: Anecdotally I'd agree the common stuff dissolves fine in bac water. But I've seen people say they had to swirl or gently roll the vial for a while before it fully cleared. Do you think some of the "it wouldn't dissolve" reports are just impatience rather than actually needing acetic acid water?
  • fasted_scientist: Yeah that would not surprise me at all tbh. I reckon a lot of the "it would not dissolve" posts are people giving it 30 seconds and panicking. When I have reconstituted I have always just let it sit for a couple minutes after gentle rolling and it cleared up fine. Ngl I have never once timed it properly though so I could be guilty of the same impatience on a bad day. Would be keen to know if anyone has actually had a peptide that genuinely never cleared in bac water even after a proper wait.
