Brain plasticity in old age is more common than we thought?

I just read this piece from SciTechDaily about a study from the University of Texas. It basically says the aging brain is way more capable of growth and improvement than we were taught in school.

This is actually kind of a relief? I have always been obsessed with the idea of cognitive longevity, and this makes me feel like my focus on nootropics is not just a waste of time. Fwiw, I have noticed that when I stay on top of my stacks, my mental clarity feels much more flexible, even if that might just be a placebo. It makes me wonder if we are overestimating the decline that comes with age.

Do you guys think this means we can actually reverse some of the fog that comes with getting older? Or is this just a fancy way of saying we can slow the decline? I am curious if anyone here has noticed a real difference in their learning speed after starting a longevity protocol ⚡.
