Hand tingling from MK-677, when does it cross into concerning territory

Started mk-677 about three weeks ago at 25mg daily, been keen to see if the sleep and recovery claims hold up. For what it is worth my sleep has been deeper and dreams are vivid as anything, kinda wild actually.

But last few days i'm getting this numbness and tingling in both hands, mostly at night and first thing in the morning. Feels like when your hand goes to sleep from how you're lying on it but it's happening even when i'm not putting pressure on them. Rings a bit tighter too so i reckon there's some water retention going on.

I know from the stack info that this is a listed side effect with gh secretagogues, fluid retention compressing nerves apparently. What i'm trying to figure out is at what point do you actually worry about it versus just riding it out. Is mild bilateral tingling just par for the course or is it a sign to dial back the dose.

As someone who runs long distances hand and foot nerve stuff is not something i want to muck around with. Has anyone here had the tingling and had it resolve on its own at the same dose, or did you have to drop back.

  • earlyderek: I havent run mk-677 myself yet but ive been reading up on it a lot and the hand tingling thing comes up constantly so youre definitely not alone there. From what ive gathered the bilateral tingling is pretty standard gh secretagogue stuff, the water retention presses on the median nerve in your wrist and you get that carpal tunnel-ish feeling. But the fact that your rings are tighter and its happening even without pressure, id personally take that as a signal to dial back the dose rather than p
  • vik_r: 5mg is basically the move I'd make too. I ran something similar a while back (not mk-677 but another secretagogue) and the hand numbness got noticeably worse before it got better, which made me wish I had backed off sooner instead of waiting it out. Nerve stuff is not something you wanna gamble on, especially if you're logging miles. Worth asking your doctor about it too if it sticks around after you lower the dose.
  • fasted_scientist: The median nerve compression thing gets repeated a lot but ngl I've not seen great data actually confirming that's the mechanism. Could just as easily be GH-mediated nerve oedema rather than classic carpal tunnel. 5mg, that's a reasonable move. If it persists after a week at the lower dose though, I'd stop entirely and get it checked rather than keep tinkering.
  • weekendyuki: Basically agree with backing off sooner rather than later. The water retention piece is what concerns me more than the tingling itself, because if it's compressing the median nerve you're basically creeping toward carpal tunnel territory. For me any numbness that sticks around past first thing in the morning is a red flag... If dropping to 5mg doesn't calm it down in a week or so, definitely get it checked.
  • student748: Yeah that median nerve point is exactly what i was worried about, cheers for spelling it out. The tingling does seem to fade after i've been up for maybe 20-30 mins so maybe not full red flag territory yet, but the rings being tighter tells me the fluid is still building. For what it is worth i was thinking 12.5mg as a step down rather than jumping straight to 5mg, does that seem too slow a taper or is it worth seeing if a middle dose sorts it?
