Berberine + low-dose semaglutide – anyone tracking appetite and glucose?

Posted by greg_codes in Weight Loss & Metabolic - 6 points, 4 comments.

I’ve been running a small stack for the past six weeks just to see how it feels. 25mg once a week subcut. I’m tracking fasting glucose each morning, HRV overnight, and weight every sunday.

Ngl the berberine gives me a bit of gurgling in the gut after the first dose but it settels after a few days. The semaglutide knocks my appetite down noticeably – i’m eating smaller portions without feeling deprived. 0mmol/l which is a touch lower than baseline.

HRV’s been steady, no big drops. Wondering if others have tried a similar low-dose combo and what side effects they’ve seen. Any tips on titration or timing to minimise GI upset?

Keen to hear your data or just your raw experience. Chur.

  • labrat_vik: I tried berberine a while back, 500mg twice a day with meals, and the GI thing was rough for the first week or so then it mostly settled like you said. Splitting the dose and always taking it with food helped me a lot, never on an empty stomach or it was just gas and rumbling all morning. For the semaglutide side, the appetite suppression is real from what I've seen people report, but the nausea and GI stuff can creep up when you titrate up, so going slow seems smart. I'd be curious what your f
  • kenji_runs: Honestly i reckon the gut stuff is the biggest hurdle with berberine. I tried it for a bit and it felt like a war zone in my stomach for days. Do you have any actual citations or data on if taking it with food actually changes the absorption rate or if it just stops the cramping?
  • greg_codes: Yeah nah the gut stuff is rough aye. I started taking it with food and it helped heaps with the cramping for me. Whether it actually changes absorption i'm not sure? I've seen conflicting stuff on that. Some papers suggest food reduces bioavailability a bit but honestly i didn't notice a difference in glucose numbers either way. Could just be my own experience though. Are you still running it or did you pack it in?
  • greg_codes: Yeah the with-food thing is spot on, i was taking it fasted first couple days and that's when the gurgling was worst. Shifted to taking it with breakfast and it settled heaps. My baseline fasting glucose was sitting around 5.3-5.5 mmol/l for a couple weeks before i started. Now it's hovering 5.0-5.1ish. Not a massive drop but consistent enough that it doesn't feel like noise. Could just be the semaglutide doing the heavy lifting though, hard to say the berberine is adding much on top at this do
