Rapamycin and metformin together for autophagy?

Posted by earlyderek in Longevity & Anti-Aging - 2 points, 0 comments.

Im trying to get a handle on how everyone approaches the big longevity stuff and i keep seeing people talking about stacking rapamycin and metformin. I read somewhere that rapamycin inhibits mTOR to trigger autophagy which is basically just cells cleaning themselves out but i am a bit confused about how adding metformin changes things.

It seems like metformin also hits autophagy by activating AMPK but i dont want to overdo it or end up with some weird side effect. I have heard people mention mouth sores or high lipids with rapamycin and then metformin can cause GI upset or B12 issues so it feels like a lot of potential downsides if the math isnt right.

Does anyone here actually do both and how do you manage the cycling? I am still pretty new to all this and mostly just reading up on the science of it all but i am curious if people find that the synergy is actually worth the extra risk of side effects. I want to be careful and im planning on getting bloodwork done before i even think about trying anything but i would love to hear how others approach the combo. Thanks for any insight.
