First time exploring mescaline: what should I know before trying?

I’ve read a bit about mescaline, the classic cactus psychedelic, and I’m curious to try it for the first time. I’m not sure how to read a typical protocol – what does “200 mg” really mean? Do I need a scale, or can I use a scoop? I’ve seen people talk about a “dose” and a “session”, but I don’t understand the difference.
I know it’s usually taken orally from dried cactus or a powder, but I’m not sure if I need to dry it or just dissolve it in water. Also, I am concerned about the strong nausea and vomiting that people say can come with it – how do I minimise that? I’m looking for a simple, step‑by‑step guide to prepare, dose.', lamp, and what to expect for duration, especially since I’ve never had a psychedelic before.
Any advice or a link to a clear beginner’s guide would be welcome. I’d love to know how others have managed the first experience.

- hank_m: Tbh i tried mescaline once, 200 mg was a full dose of pure alkaloid – really hard to measure without a scale, a typical shot‑sized spoon will never cut it, so if you want accuracy you’ll need a micro‑scale, otherwise stick to a lower number and go up slowly. The “dose” is the amount you ingest, the “session” is the whole psychedelic trip, which for mescaline runs about 8 hrs. વામાં what i learned: keep a glass of ginger tea handy, stay hydrated, and have a trusted sitter. No rush, take time, and
- aspiring_trailrun: Thanks for the scale tip – I’ll look into getting one (never trusted a scoop for anything precise). The ginger tea idea makes sense; I’ll keep that ready. Got a trusted sitter lined up, but any thoughts on how to handle the first hour or two while waiting for it to kick in? Found myself panicking before last time with something else, so that’d help.
