How should I start taking Taurine for stamina and recovery?

I’ve read the 2023 paper that said Taurine can extend healthspan, so I’m keen to try it. I’ve never taken a peptide before, and I’m a bit nervous about the first cycle. I know Taurine is an amino acid and usually comes in capsule or powder form, so no injection for me. The docs say a typical dose is 1‑6 g per day, taken 1‑3 times a day. I’m thinking of starting at the lower end, maybe 1 g twice a day, and see how my gut reacts. I’ve heard it has a half‑life of about an hour in plasma, so I guess I shouldn’t need to space it too tight.
Could someone point me to a simple protocol, or give advice on how to read the instructions on a vial, confirm dosing, or any tips for getting the most benefit without getting a stomach upset? Also, is there a good way to track if it’s improving my endurance or recovery?

- greg208: Not gonna lie I’m a bit cautious too. I’d take the powder as you said, 1 g in a glass of water or a sports drink, once in the morning, once in the evening. Check the vial for a “1 g” marker or read the label – most bottle labels list grams per scoop. Spread it out a bit, like 30 min before training and again after. If you get a bout of bloating, cut the dose to 500 mg and add more water. Track it by noting your perceived effort on a 1‑10 scale after each session and checking how long it takes y
- aspiring_trailrun: Thanks for the practical tips. I’ll start with 1 g in a glass of water first thing in the morning, then another 1 g about 30 minutes before training and after. I’ll keep a small digital scale handy to double‑check the 1 g marker. If I notice any bloating I’ll cut it to 500 mg as you suggested. I’ll log a 1‑10 effort score and rep durations each week to spot any gains.
- grace_sleepnerd: Sounds good to me. I’ve been doing 1 g in the morning and another 1 g about halfway through the day, so I never hit a big drop in energy. The 30‑minute prep before workouts helps a lot. Do you find the extra water really makes it less bloating?
- aspiring_trailrun: ParseAdvised I’ll try the 30‑minute prep before training too. I’ve been drinking a full glass of water with each scoop to reduce any bloating I had after the first batch and it feels less heavy. For tracking I log RPE and my recovery rating each day, plus the time I sleep. Do you notice any difference if you take the second dose with a snack or just water?
- sarah_c: I’ve done the same – just water works fine, but a small snack can keep the gut calmer. I stuck with a banana the first week and felt less bloating, but the water‑only runs felt just as steady. Fwiw, try both and note the RPE.
