My First 6 Months on Dutasteride for Hair Loss – Thoughts?

5 mg of dutasteride daily about six months ago because a friend mentioned it worked better than finasteride for my diffuse thinning. A couple of months in I noticed the fine hairs on my crown looking a bit thicker, and the strip of hair on the front left looking less frayed. The change is subtle, not a total reversal, but it does feel like a positive sign.
I haven’t had any noticeable drop in libido or other sexual side effects, and my routine hasn’t shifted – I still lift and run as beraber. I do keep a small log of scalp feel and hair density, and I’ve been checking my serum DHT levels – they’ve dropped about 50 % in the scalp area on a paper that a research colleague sent me. I’m looking for any other users’ reports or tips on monitoring; I’m curious if weight changes or liver function tests are useful.

- greg208: Not gonna lie I’ve tried dutasteride myself for a couple of months. TheDOS drop I saw in my TSH and cholesterol was a bit worrisome, so I got a full panel done – liver enzymes, fasting glucose, lipid profile – and kept an eye on my weight. Nothing dramatic changed, but I did notice a small dip in my appetite and a couple of pounds lost, which is fine if you’re lifting. I’d recommend a quarterly check‑up if you’re on it long term; the hair looks a touch thicker on my crown, but you’ll still need
- aspiring_trailrun: Cheers for sharing, mate. The DHT drop and cholesterol changes make sense. I’ve stuck to my routine with no appetite issues, but I’ll keep an eye on my levels too. Quarterly checks sound wise – don’t want to miss anything subtle. 😎
