Canagliflozin making me go to the bathroom every 2 hours and feel light‑headed

I started canagliflozin 100 mg daily for glucose control about two months ago. For the first week I was fine, but then my bathroom visits jumped from 3–4 a day to 8–10. The extra urination left me feeling dizzy and a bit dehydrated, especially after work when I’m staying in front of the screen a lot. I noticed my weight dropped about 3 pounds after the first week, and my blood pressure stayed on the lower side of my baseline reading. I checked my electrolytes at the pharmacy lab; potassium was a touch low and sodium was croy.
I’m wondering if anyone has found a good routine to stay hydrated without overdoing it, like water intake per hour or electrolytes supplements. Also, if anyone has tried tapering off to see if the symptoms ease or if there’s a way to mitigate the diuresis while keeping the glucose benefit. Just my own experience, but any practical pointers would be great.

- practical_experiment: Not gonna lie, I’ve had to tweak my hydration a lot since starting canagliflozin. I’ve been sipping a glass every hour, especially after I get stuck in front of the screen. I add a pinch of sea salt to water and keep a low‑sodium snack like a boiled egg ready – that’s how I staved off the light‑headedness. In the first week I was almost pulling a water bottle by the desk like a lifebuoy. When I tried cutting back the dose to 50 mg, the urine frequency eased after a month, but the blood sugar sl
- grace_sleepnerd: Thanks for the tips. I’ll try a 300‑ml glass every hour and add a pinch of sea salt, maybe 100 mg sodium a day. I’ll also keep a boiled egg on hand for a quick snack. I’m still on 100 mg for glucose, but I’ll check my potassium and sodium every week since it’s low now. Do you ever monitor potassium at the pharmacy or home? That’d help tweak the balance.
- grace_sleepnerd: I’ve been doing the same thing, extra sea‑salt water and a boiled egg at my desk. Still felt a bit woozy after long screen time. I started a potassium tablet with dinner and it Holidays a bit. Have you tried a daily multivitamin that includes electrolytes? And make sure your doc’s in on the changes.
