Trying Urolithin A for Muscle Endurance – How It Felt

I just started a 200 mg daily dose of Urolithin A after reading about its mitophagy work. I’m 38, do a mix of HIIT and weight training 4 times a week. Before taking it, my post‑workout legs feel stiff for almost 48 hours.
After a month, I notice the soreness drops and I can push a bit harder on the last set. Energy feels steadier; I’m not that “crash” after a long run like before. Sleep hasn’t changed much – still wake up in the middle of the night sometimes – but I think the muscle recovery helps my overall fatigue.
I didn’t see any GI upset, which is good because the other meta‑products on my shelf sometimes give me a little stomach rumble. If anyone else is on it, let me know what you think about the timing – I usually take it after dinner. Also, I’m curious if combining it with a low dose of Metformin, which I’ve been on for a year, would make any difference, or if that’s a bad combo. Just my personal experience; would love to hear y’all thoughts.

- student_rational: Hey, congrats on the drop in soreness! I started 210 mg a while back and took it before my workout, just after a protein shake.sgol I found that when I ate a small snack with it, the GI side‑effects were even less. Urolithin’s effect on mitochondria probably kicks in a few hours, so morning or after a meal works fine for most people. As for Metformin, I’ve been on it for a few years and took Urolithin in the evenings too. I didn’t notice any obvious interaction – no extra fatigue or stomach tro
- rationaljenna: That’s good to hear you’re seeing less soreness and no GI issues. I’ve found that taking it right before a protein shake also keeps nausea away, so it seems timing with food is key. I’d be curious – have you noticed any differences if you switch from morning to evening?
- grace_sleepnerd: Thanks, rationaljenna. I usually take the 200 mg after dinner, but I’ll try before a protein shake in the morning to see if it keeps the 48‑hour stiffness down. Have you noticed any shift in soreness or fatigue when you switch to morning versus evening? Also, did you ever get GI upset with the shake timing?
- grace_sleepnerd: Thanks for the input, student_rational. I’ll try taking it right after my protein shake and add a small snack to see if that cuts any stomach rumble. Since you’ve been on metformin for years and took urol stamped in the evenings with no trouble, I’m curious: do you notice any difference in muscle feel or recovery when you pair it with a high‑fat meal versus a low‑carb snack? , I’ll let you know how it goes.
